Being Human Updates - 21.10.22

I spent some time this morning just trying to choose some photos I like and what I like about them. Some of these photos I might want to put some into the photo book of "Being Human".

Studio work will have started after half term, which, by the time of writing, will be two weeks from now.

Being Human

This is literally my bread and butter, as I am really comfortable with just going out by myself and being able to shoot people or what people have done either by creating things or leaving things in rubbish dumps, anything really to signify the presence of humans. I really do like watching people go by and just be able to look at them and study them and be intrigued about their lives, and I think my photos reflect that. The presence of humans and what they are doing in their daily lives.

Digital Photos For Being Human

Digital photos (to me at least) always have this sort of clinical look to them. Too sharp, too easy to use and a lot of post-processing. I know that the auto button is there and you do a LOT more post-processing with film, but I just cannot get over that clinical look to them. Maybe trying old lenses in digital photos, which I have tried with some of these photos just so that I can stop and try and make sure that the photos aren't too clinical looking. I can also edit them to make them look black and white, which emulates the look of Robert Frank and Vivian Maier. Maybe try and add some artificial film grain as well to mask the digital look.

35mm Film Photos For Being Human

So, if you're going to be inspired by Vivian Maier and Robert Frank then why don't you use the medium that they used when they were taking photos? Film. Seeing that I had a quick dark room crash course, I felt like it was a good idea to start using film for this. For some of the photos, I used Rollei 400 just because I had a roll of it lying around, with Ilford HP5+ and Kentmere as well.
