Looking At Other People's Street Photography Projects - 28.11.22
When I was in discussion with the lecturer during our interim review, he showed me that my work does not have a theme when looking at the photos that I have taken for the "Being Human" project. He proceeded to ask me about my "Being Human" project and to see if I can get a theme for the project, as this can tie into a cohesive photo book.
When we talked about this, he pointed out two very notable photographers which were Nick Turpin, who created a photo book around the idea of steamed glass on a bus, which was called "On the Night Bus", and Marc Henry who created the Instagram page called "waitingX2". The photos from Nick Turnpin's photo book consist of people being taken in a steamed glass London night bus, which made them look like painted figures.
This photographer was bought up due to me taking a photo of a fogged-up bus window, which reminded my lecturer of this photography project.
Some of his photos and my black and white photo are shown below, to see where the similarities between Turpin's work and my work and where my lecturer was reminded of the photography project.
Nick Turpin - On the Night Bus
Turpin, N. (2022)
Nick Turpin's work consists of using digital photography as his medium, whilst with my work, I would rather use black and white film to extenuate the focal point of the subjects. As you can also see, he would use a super telephoto lens or a mixture of both editing and a telephoto lens to frame the subjects up through the bus window.
My photo is shown below to show the similarities between his work and mine.

The other photographer that was mentioned during the interim assessment was Marc Henry, whose project on Instagram is called waitingX2, which featured the same cloudy, cotton-balled background that I found when taking photos during a night walk.
Like what my lecturer has said to me, the background was very cohesive with what he photographed and could make for an interesting photo book, even if the photographer wanted to publish their work only on their Instagram page.
@waitingX2 instgram posts
The photographer for the waitingX2 Instagram page mostly focused on photographing people against the cloud-looking backdrop of the bus stop poster, which is shown above. In my photographs, I only used the reflection of the bus poster and framed myself within the bus stop.

My lecturer pointed out these photography projects so that I can get a grip on what I wanted to show for my photo book. I currently do not have a cohesive photography project, which is why the lecturer pointed out these two sets of work for me to research and look into how I can have a theme when creating my own photo book around a theme.
