Evaluation of Project - 16.01.23
Coming into this project without a plan of what I wanted to shoot was difficult. I always wanted to do the local heroes one as showcasing local heroes would have been an interesting point of view of the day in the life of, but not hearing back from others quickly and worrying about the timings before the due date changes meant that the subject matter had to change.
This meant that I had to change the subject matter quickly, which I felt was a challenge in itself as doing a social documentary style was something that I was not comfortable with, even though street photography and social documentary had things in common.
I feel like pivoting from one idea to another was something that I was strong at during this project.
I do not mind having my fiance as a subject, as this was also interesting as well but I would have preferred something that I feel would have been more meaningful to me as a photographer as showcasing something that I do not experience much each day would have had me shooting a lot more.
The photo below is one of my favourite photos from this project;
The differences between the foreground and the background are strikingly different. I also liked the way that I colour-graded the photo from being vibrant to something that's more desaturated and close to a black-and-white photo. I also like the way that the background is not in focus as well, but would have liked the image more if the background was more blurred due to lens limitations of having an aperture range of f3.5 to f6.3, would have made the background seem more in focus.
I think that I shot this photo at the telephoto range to get the framing right and to also compress the background and foreground. I also like the foreground being in complete darkness due to exposing for the background, to have this silhouette style to it.
I also like the framing of this photo, as I have framed the window frame to line up with the frames of the photo. A frame within a frame. I also think that having my fiance do something also helps with filling up the image and having her in the rule of thirds as well helps with the composition of the photo.
I think that to improve on this project, I would have liked to have my ideas set earlier so that I can shoot more. I also think that I would have enjoyed this project more if it had something to do with something that I am interested in, as I would have shot more and experimented more with the composition and the subject matter as well. I also think that to improve this project shooting more in general as well.
I do not mind this as a project to do, but trying to show the subject matter that I am not fully set on did not help with my project and my confidence with this project.
