Evaluation Of Project - 16.01.23

This project came out unexpectedly. I also actually enjoyed the way that the studio shoot came out as it was something that I did not expect. I also managed to quickly change the idea for the shoot quickly and into something that I enjoyed, which helped me take the shots that I needed for the shoot. I also think that basing it on something that can potentially be used as a graphic for a book helped me take better photos and to create something for a professional outcome.

I think that my technical skills came out in this project compared to the other projects as I had to create a shallow depth of field with the only lens that I had with my digital camera. This and setting up the lighting rigs myself also showed how technical I am with the studio lights and the way that I can use the camera also shows this as well. The studio shoot also inspired me to learn how to use the studio and how to use my camera with the lighting rigs.

The photos below show my favourite ones;

The compositions of each of these images are based more on the book cover style and would fit nicely with some text either above the butterfly or below it. I also think that my compositional technique helped with this as the rule of thirds and having the subject be in the upper third and lower third helps. The last image was just an experiment, but it would look cool as an advert for the book.

The colour scheme of the butterfly and the blood and having this contrast between the blood and the butterfly plays well with each other and that is due to having a good colour theory to back it up.

I also like the way that the second photo has contrast between the background and the foreground, with the butterfly being white whilst the background is black. I also liked the different textures that it incorporates between the butterfly and the table that I shot this on. The way that the table has this spot texture on it alongside the blood splatters compliments it well. The last photo is just cool looking due to my fiance moving her head to create this look to it.

To improve this, I would experiment more with different origami figures and experiment with different coloured lights. With the fire, I could also experiment using flammable liquid but due to health and safety, I did not do this. I could also come up with splattering more or adding a pool of blood for the background of the shoot.

I do not think that I showed any weaknesses during this time as the photos taken with the props and model turned out great.
