A Day In The Life Of... My Fiance - Final Images - 09.01.23

These are the images that I have complied of my Fiance over the course of the term. I have tried to use the EDFAT process of taking photos that completely describe what she does in her day-to-day life and will try and explain what is going on with her. Some of the photos are from the previous posts due to the photos showcasing what I wanted for this project.

Most of the time, the photos that I take of her was not trying to show her face, whilst the last photo was to show her face, so that at the end of the mini series about my Fiance, I can show the viewer of what my Fiance looks like, not just a random somebody that does not show their face for a photo.

E - Entire

These photos show the entirety of the whole surroundings that she is in. I also wanted to experiment with the 21:9 aspect ratio to centre her within her surroundings. I think that this shot shows what she lives in very well. I think that a wide-angle here was very effective as it would fill the frame up with the kitchen that she uses in her daily life.

The photos show the entirety of her life, what she does and what type of environment that she is in, without her being out of the photo.

D - Detail

Most of my shots focus on the details as I like to shoot with a telephoto lens. I think it shows with the selection that I have. I also needed to focus my shots with her in them as I would lose the main subject of the photo if I did not have her hold anything or focus on things that she would do in her life.

Details can also be details within the image, such as the dishes on the drying rack, her holding her phone and even her ticket from the train station.

I think that the best example of detail is the one with a shadow, it lacks detail in the shadow but the shadows themselves give a detailed look as to what her surroundings are, without losing too much focus on the subject.

I also liked the way her hair was moving around when the portrait shot was taken. With this camera and the natural sharpness that the 85mm f1.8 had wide open was impressive to even notice her hair was messy.

F - Frame

This can range from the different aspect ratios of the whole image to the framing of the subject and this is where I can get very technical with it. I experimented with both the aspect ratios such as 1:1, 21:9 and the regular 3:2. I also experimented with the framing of the subject with the rule of thirds and the frame within the frame. I also like the way that the silhouette photo frames her up with both rule of thirds and a frame within a frame.

I also took a shot with her upstairs, with a really weird leading line. The leading line was the stair handles, whilst she was also in the rule of thirds. The leading line was not straight at all, but I feel like the shot worked even though the leading line was straight at all.

The deep depth of field for that shot cannot be avoided due to the lens only being able to shoot at f3.5 to f6.3 as this was a super zoom lens. I also had to boost the iso higher than what I would have liked, but the shot still turned out great due to the low light performance of Sony cameras compared to other cameras.

I also wanted to not show her face throughout the photo, till the very last image. Holding off till the last image makes showing her face in the last photo special as I feel like only revealing her face till the end makes you wonder who is this person.

I also frame most of her face with something to cover herself up with, just to add a spot of mystery to the shots of her.

A - Angle

I also experimented with how I would show my fiance. First, the stair shot would be from a low angle, with me being near the bottom of the stairs, whilst she would be near the top.

The more interesting shot I would say to demonstrate using a different angle is the one with her being reflected within the tabletop. This was interesting as I rotated the image around so that her face would be the right side up and show a different angle to her. The left image was the rotated image whilst the right image is the original shot.

T - Time

All of these photos were taken at different times of the day at different times of the year, within the project timeline. I think that the different times of day show in all of these photos.

It's a shame that the timeline for this project was short as a year in photos would have been a good idea for the time use.

And like I have said before, the stairs photo was difficult to shoot and thus had to be grainer than what I would have liked due to being dark and the lens having a very small aperture and thus, less light and then needing to bump up the ISO to something that I am not too comfortable with.
