For the brief, you would need to come up with an issue that compels you and that you care about deeply.

I started to think about what I have been through in my life that I can portray through the use of typography.

​

First is the issue of mental health. I had started a graphic design project for this way before doing this course, but due to my mental health degrading, I had to abandon the project and the Graphic Design A Levels and chose to do engineering, which was not so bad, but I had no passion in doing engineering. 

​

I feel like going back to that would be a very strong suit to follow and thus could be one of my ideas for the brief. 

​

The other one would be ADHD in adults, as I found online most of the resources are aimed at younger audiences and thus do not relate to people that have found later in life that they have ADHD. I also have been recently diagnosed with ADHD and struggle with it from day to day. It made me wonder if I have had a proper diagnosis before, would I have been able to cope with it better now than later if I had someone list down some symptoms that I can relate to when it comes to having this diagnosis as an adult?

The only reason why I was questioning that I might have ADHD (or some form of it) was due to a podcast, with one of the hosts talking about how he was only able to understand that he has ADHD was talking with his streaming audience saying that he has traits of ADHD. 

​

If I am able to show that some people might have ADHD in adulthood, do not know about it and struggle with symptoms of this, then that could be the basis of my project. 

​

Another idea is something to do with being treated harshly as a kid. Coming from an Asian background, we have always been pushed too hard with school and the need to get good grades. I found that out myself, needing to do extra Maths and English so that I can be in the higher sets for these subjects in school, even though I had no motivation to do such things. 

​

These are just some of my initial ideas for the brief that I want to show through typography and I feel like these would be some interesting ideas to show, which are not too hard-hitting for everyone to see. 

​

Moving forward, I could try and research mental health charities and projects that can relate to mental health alongside ADHD (as having ADHD is also a symptom of mental health issues), then I can see which path I could go down. 

​

I am currently leaning towards the mental health stuff as this is something that I have wanted to do before, but have not been able to show for it.
