Evaluation of Project - 08.02.23

This is the Evaluation Page of the project. I will talk about the strengths, weaknesses and things that I could have done differently in the future for another project.

First of all, the strengths of the project;

I think that keeping to a design principle throughout the design process made the whole thing easier for me and I managed to finish on time and within the time limit that the tutors have set me. I also think that keeping to this design principle made the charity organisation have an original ethos and keeping to the grey also made me realise that mental health is not about being black and white, where you fit or you don't, it's more of a grey tone, where parts of you are in the spectrum and parts of you aren't.

I also feel like the logo was a great idea (which is also supported by my ADHD friend having suggestions for many aspects of the project, including the logo) and creating meaning behind each square of the logo was a cool idea.

I also liked the typography of the posters, which my friend also liked as well, only pointing out things that were subjective to him and small improvements that I bought onboard and changed for the posters, website and journal. Even showing the posters to my Fiance, she thought that it was good to show this poster in public, to try and raise awareness of ADHD and potentially other mental health issues as well.

Having ADHD has some strengths to it. First, I feel like I could come up with ideas that are more original, which showed in the journal graphics. I also am meticulous when it comes to small mistakes, which also shows in the timelapse of the journal graphics.

I also think that doing a lot of primary research/experimentation was really good as this produced some amazing original graphics for this project. I also think that getting suggestions and feedback is nice as well, as this can inspire me to create what the brief/client wants with regard to what they want as graphics.

Now for some weaknesses;

I think that trying to squeeze about 10/11 weeks of work into 5/6 weeks was a tough call, as the work needed for another unit was already taking up my time for this unit and other units. The project was also across Christmas and me wanting to relax bought more difficulty for the project and more time constraints. I also feel like coming up with something that I was wanting to do took way too long and that (of course) bit into my time for experimenting and coming up with original ideas.

Adding no colour also did not help with the outcomes as most charities that I had a look at almost always had a colour that could be situated with the charity (green for the samaritans and a blue-ish purple for mind.org). But it also adds meaning to the grey, white and black.

Opportunities that I could have done;

First, I could have made a working website using Adobe's software or something that I am more familiar with such as Wix. Adding this to the brief could have made the design package stand out more.

Secondly, I could have made a prototype of the journal as well, to see if having the final outcome for this would have worked in person.

I could have also photoshopped the posters into a real-life photo to see if it works in real life and this could have been done for the website and journal too.

For some threats;

People might not just care enough for another charity organisation to be popping up out of nowhere. I also feel like the grey tones might be too boring for people and they might not like the grey, even though it does have a significant meaning to it.

There are also sources for mental health already, but I feel like there is nothing geared towards adults with the same condition that I have.

I also think that the brief might want something related to pure activism, with the LGBTQ movement or the black lives matter movement, not something that is more on the commercial side of things which can be sent up for an up-and-coming charity or non-profit organisation.

I also think that the non-traditional touchpoint might lean too much on the traditional touchpoint and might not be too related (in terms of my design) for ADHD, even though I have asked if my Fiance would buy it and she said she would, as it would not relate too much to having ADHD, but would support the organisation.

I also think that looking at the brief in more detail might be a good idea as to how I can lean on creating this more towards the brief and not something that I myself have led the brief to be.
