Development of Journal - 02.02.23
For this journal, I wanted to experiment with using etching as we have a unit based on printmaking. I felt like this would enable me to show;
1) What I am capable of in the printshop
2) to see if this idea works as a whole
For this, I wanted to experiment with using the geometry of the logo. The development is shown below. I wanted to experiment with this repeating pattern that I wanted to create using the etching technique that was shown to me during college time. I also wanted this handmade look to it as well as I felt like having this look to it could show how messy one's mind is initially, with having these carved lines that were made by hand. I also think that going for a geometric pattern that is not tooo distracting would be good too.
I also experimented with the use of shading as adding this using aquatint would be cool to experiment with it.
The process of etching will be explained in the printmaking unit, but the final plate is ready to be etched and will be done when we are next in the printmaking room.
The final plate before etching is shown below. I also created an inverse of this to show what the final outcome from the plate is, without having to etch it properly. This was done by taking a photo/scan of the image, inversing it in photoshop and then using illustrator to image trace the whole inverted plate.
