Quick Tour of the Print Making Room and Some Monoprints - 16.09.22

Today we had a quick look into the print room. The room has a lot of health and safety needed to make sure that students and staff are safe when working in the room. From heavy objects to health risks such as burns and unsafe chemicals, this shows that this room has to have someone that is compliant with how to use that room.

How to do a Monoprint

First, the ink was spread on a surface. This surface was usually smooth due to needing to transfer the ink from the table/board onto a piece of paper. The ink was then tested to see if there was too much and this would show as splodges on the paper. Paper would be used to get rid of the excess ink by pressing it onto the ink and spreading the paper out. After this was done (multiple times if needed) the paper that the printmaker would use would be put on top. A magazine photo would be used on top of the print paper to trace the image onto the paper. The image appears as a mirror image, due to tracing around the photos and transferring the ink onto the paper. This means that lettering has to be traced/drwan by mirroring the letters so that the letters appear backwards when traced, but look normal when the ink has transferred over.
