Poster Experimentation - Part 4 - Testing Out the 3D Anaglyph In Photoshop - 21.03.23

I managed to buy a packet of 3D glasses that I used to test the 3D effect of the image. After finding out that the 3D effect works on all of the testing that I have done in photoshop, there are some draw backs that I have found.

The first image below shows the poster that was used for the base of experimenting. The second photo shows the use of a bitmap, with a diffusion dither at around 100-150 PPI. The third photo shows the same bitmapping technique, but with a half-tone applied to it instead, whilst the last photo shows a photoshopped approach with colour-picking the colours used for the 3D effect.

The first and second test poster works as an anaglyph, but there is double-visioning when looking at the swimmers at the back due to the black layer not having enough depth into the photo. I also would need to be fine with either a red or a cyan-coloured base for the poster. But having it look like that without noticeable colours of red or cyan would look cool and would provide a unique viewing experience when the posters are up. I could also base the campaign on one of the colours used to create that 3D look.

The last test image only works partially due to not selecting most of the colours, which would be difficult to do anyways as this has been the stumbling block that I have tried to overcome for the past week.

All tests have had one major flaw, which is not enough resolution to either the bitmapping or to selecting the needed colours for the effect. I would need to either just make a print from the original test poster process and not sacrifice the look of the poster when not using 3D glasses or to use a cyan/red base for the poster or to select more of the colour used when creating the screen prints.

But like I have said in the previous blog post, I would want to see a test print on paper before moving forward with the idea.
