Updates before Screen Printing - 27.04.23

Before I was able to screen print, my lecturers discussed my ideas and posters with me as I was going to be screen printing them as this will be a very expensive investment for the college.

I would need to ensure that I am doing everything right.

The lecturers have advised me to add reg marks onto the screen print for each layer to ensure that I can line up the screens correctly, as any deviation in the movement of the screen can cause weird colouring in the final image due to misalignment. This would not have been a problem if the college has a rotating screen-printing station where I can load the screens up onto the machine and have nearly perfect alignment every time for one screen print.

They have also advised me to make sure that the paper that I am printing on should be bigger than the screen that I am printing from so that the print does not spill over. If I am printing too close to the edge, it might spill off the page and will not look too great.

They also had a look if I managed to align the halftone effect correctly with all the alignment being different angles needed for the correct look of the poster. I explained to them that I have aligned each layer correctly with a link to the appropriate site that I used to align the colours correctly. I have also used Photoshop to test the alignment to see if the whole process should work or not.

I will need to ensure that the paper that I will be printing on should be able to not bleed as any sort of bleeding from the ink might not look too great for my final piece.

Speaking of the poster design itself, one of the lecturers was wondering if I should be translating the logo slogan into English as this was the only part of the poster that was in English. I have described to her that it would be a good idea to translate it, but it does mean I have to redo all the layers on the posters, which will mean more work for me down the line.

I also explained to her that Filipinos can read English very well and that the logo-slogan will be a recognisable brand for the whole movement, which means leaving it alone and having people have this recognisable brand for the movement will be easier for them to find in general. I also will miss the fact that it says SOS in the logo, as this is a call for help to ensure that every country is doing their part in being environmentally friendly. She also suggested that it might be good to add an artist's note describing my work.

I also feel like I have subconsciously chosen to do a movement about waste due to the photo that was about the little girl having hopes in her eyes, even though there was clearly so much rubbish being burnt.

I will need to get a test print done before moving on to the final pieces to ensure that everything will be fine for the final screen prints.

I have also found out that I cannot do a PDF print from photoshop due to the resolution of the image being compressed. This will lead to a lot of the screen prints being really pixelated.
